Jenny Erpenbeck ist die gefeierte deutsche Autorin von Heimsuchung und eine der kraftvollsten Stimmen der zeitgenössischen europäischen Literatur. 1967 in Ost-Berlin in eine Schriftstellerfamilie geboren, entwirft Erpenbeck vielschichtige historische Romane, die Themen wie Erinnerung, Vertreibung und die Last der Vergangenheit erkunden.

Heimsuchung folgt mehreren Generationen, die über ein Jahrhundert deutscher Geschichte hinweg – vom Ersten Weltkrieg bis in die Nachkriegszeit – ein Haus am See in Brandenburg bewohnen. NPR bezeichnete das Werk als „eine Geschichte des Jahrhunderts, gesehen durch die Objekte, die wir auf dem Weg gekannt und verloren haben“.

Bevor sie hauptberuflich Schriftstellerin wurde, studierte Erpenbeck Theaterregie an der Hochschule für Musik „Hanns Eisler“ und arbeitete europaweit als Opernregisseurin. Ihr Roman Aller Tage Abend gewann 2015 den Independent Foreign Fiction Prize, während Gehen, ging, gegangen auf der Longlist für den Man Booker International Prize 2018 stand. Im Jahr 2024 schrieb sie Geschichte als erste deutsche Schriftstellerin, die den International Booker Prize für Kairos gewann. Ihre Werke wurden in mehr als zwanzig Sprachen übersetzt und gelten weithin als Pflichtlektüre der zeitgenössischen deutschen Literatur.
