Ernest Kurtz (1935–2015) ist der Autor von The Spirituality of Imperfection und ein renommierter Historiker der Anonymen Alkoholiker sowie ein Experte für Spiritualität. Dieses in Zusammenarbeit mit Katherine Ketcham verfasste wegweisende Werk erforscht die spirituellen – wenn auch nicht notwendigerweise religiösen – Prinzipien, die der Genesung und der menschlichen Transformation zugrunde liegen, und betont die Akzeptanz von Unvollkommenheit durch die Kraft des Geschichtenerzählens.

Kurtz promovierte 1978 an der Harvard University, und seine Dissertation wurde zu Not-God: A History of Alcoholics Anonymous, das weithin als die maßgebliche Chronik der Gründung und Entwicklung der AA gilt.

Als erster Forscher, dem voller Zugang zu den Archiven der AA gewährt wurde, wurde Kurtz als „der fähigste Chronist der AA“ bekannt.
