Carl Valdemar Jussi Henry Adler-Olsen ist der international erfolgreiche dänische Krimiautor von Erbarmen (The Keeper of Lost Causes), dem ersten Roman seiner gefeierten Sonderdezernat Q-Serie um den tief gezeichneten Ermittler Carl Mørck.

Geboren 1950 in Kopenhagen, ist Adler-Olsen der Sohn des renommierten Psychiaters Henry Olsen, was seine Auseinandersetzung mit psychologischer Komplexität und institutionellen Fehlfunktionen in der skandinavischen Kriminalliteratur maßgeblich beeinflusste. Er studierte Medizin, Soziologie, Politologie und Filmwissenschaft, bevor er sich 1995 ganz dem Schreiben widmete.

Vor dem Start des Sonderdezernats Q schrieb Adler-Olsen erfolgreiche Einzelthriller, darunter Das Alphabetshaus (1997) und Das Washington-Dekret.
