Creating energy, inspiration and hope is essential to purposeful leadership. Your mindset determines whether you generate hope or bring everyone down.
Third, be clear about whom you serve. Serving yourself has no place in purposeful leadership. The best leaders don't climb to the top-they're carried there by serving others. This means serving frontline employees, colleagues, board members, and understanding what everyone needs to perform their best.
Fourth, be driven by values. Values like honesty, respect, and compassion must move beyond paper to practice. Clayton Christensen notes it's easier to stick to principles 100% of the time than 98%-the "just this once" exception creates a slippery slope.
