Frank Ostaseski ist der Autor von Die fünf Einladungen: Was wir vom Tod über das Leben lernen können und ein Pionier in der kontemplativen Sterbebegleitung. Als buddhistischer Lehrer und international anerkannter Experte für Achtsamkeit und Sterben war er 1987 Mitbegründer des Zen Hospice Project, dem ersten buddhistischen Hospiz Amerikas, wo er ein bahnbrechendes Modell für mitfühlende Pflege etablierte.

Im Jahr 2005 gründete er das Metta Institute, das weltweit Tausende von Klinikern und Pflegekräften ausbildete.
