Dan Simmons ist der Bestsellerautor von Der Sturz von Hyperion, dem gefeierten zweiten Teil seiner preisgekrönten Hyperion-Gesänge-Serie. Geboren 1948 in Peoria, Illinois, ist Simmons dafür bekannt, literarische Raffinesse in die epische Space Opera zu bringen, indem er Philosophie, Poesie und komplexes World-Building miteinander verwebt. Das erste Buch, Hyperion, gewann 1990 den prestigeträchtigen Hugo Award und festigte seinen Status als prägende Stimme der modernen Science-Fiction.

Bevor er hauptberuflich als Schriftsteller tätig wurde, arbeitete Simmons 18 Jahre lang als Grundschullehrer – eine Erfahrung, die sein erzählerisches Handwerk tiefgreifend beeinflusste.
