Johannes Erwin Eugen Rommel (1891–1944) war ein deutscher Generalfeldmarschall und der Autor von Infanterie greift an, einem klassischen Handbuch für Militärtaktik, das ihn als einen der innovativsten Strategen des 20. Jahrhunderts etablierte. Das 1937 veröffentlichte Buch greift auf seinen hochdekorierten Dienst im Ersten Weltkrieg zurück, in dem er für seine kühne Führung an der italienischen Front Deutschlands höchste militärische Auszeichnung, den Pour le Mérite, erhielt.
