Thomas Quinn Cahill (1940–2022) war der Bestsellerautor von How the Irish Saved Civilization: The Untold Story of Ireland’s Heroic Role from the Fall of Rome to the Rise of Medieval Europe.

Seine Serie Hinges of History – zu der auch The Gifts of the Jews, Desire of the Everlasting Hills und Mysteries of the Middle Ages gehören – untersucht entscheidende kulturelle und intellektuelle Wendepunkte durch akribisch recherchierte Erzählweise.

Als ehemaliger Leiter der Abteilung für religiöse Publikationen bei Doubleday und Mitarbeiter der Los Angeles Times Book Review verband Cahill akademische Strenge mit journalistischer Klarheit. How the Irish Saved Civilization stand fast zwei Jahre lang auf der Bestsellerliste der New York Times, verkaufte sich über zwei Millionen Mal und festigte sein Erbe als Brückenbauer zwischen wissenschaftlicher Geschichte und einer breiten Leserschaft.
