Rich Karlgaard

Geboren: August 09, 1954 – Bismarck, North Dakota, United States

Rich Karlgaard is an American business writer, entrepreneur, and longtime Forbes publisher whose work centers on leadership, innovation, talent development, and company culture. He is the author of The Soft Edge and Late Bloomers, books that broadened discussion of long-term business success and the value of nontraditional development paths.

Biografie & Werdegang des Autors

Rich Karlgaard’s story begins in Bismarck, North Dakota, where he developed first as a runner and student before attending Bismarck State College and then transferring to Stanford, where he earned a degree in political science. His later work would gain unusual force from the fact that his own path was not especially linear. In publisher descriptions of Late Bloomers and in biographical accounts, he is presented as someone who left college without early professional momentum and worked jobs such as dishwasher and night watchman before finding his footing in Silicon Valley. The first major turning points came through institution-building as much as writing: he helped found the Churchill Club, co-launched Upside, and then, in 1992, was recruited by Steve Forbes to start Forbes ASAP. In 1998, he rose to publisher of Forbes, a role that made him a prominent interpreter of innovation, growth, and business culture.
