Born: October 29, 1954 – Coventry, Warwickshire, England
Lee Child is a British thriller novelist best known for creating Jack Reacher, the former military policeman who anchors his bestselling series. Beginning with Killing Floor, his books focus on crime, justice, and vigilantism, and have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide, with translations into numerous languages.
Born James Dover Grant in Coventry in 1954 and raised largely in Birmingham, Lee Child came to fiction comparatively late. He won a scholarship to the school once attended by J. R. R. Tolkien, studied law in Sheffield, worked part-time in the theatre, and then spent eighteen years at Granada Television in Manchester as a presentation director during a period that produced major British dramas such as Brideshead Revisited and Prime Suspect. The decisive break came in 1995, when corporate restructuring ended that career. Rather than treat redundancy as defeat, he bought a few dollars’ worth of paper and pencils and began the novel that became Killing Floor. ((https://www.jackreacher.com/us/authors/))
