Jim VandeHei is an American journalist, media entrepreneur, and author whose work centers on politics, business, media, and communication. He co-founded Politico and Axios, co-authored Smart Brevity, and wrote the New York Times bestseller Just the Good Stuff, helping shape modern digital political and business journalism.
Jim VandeHei is from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and his route into journalism was uneven. His publisher’s biography describes a period when a guidance counselor told him he was not cut out for college, followed by time at a two-year school and a shaky start at the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh. The decisive change came when he found two enduring interests, politics and journalism. At Oshkosh, he completed a bachelor’s degree, with university materials describing his studies as a double major in journalism and political science.
