Born: December 14, 1960 – Yonkers, New York, United States
James Comey is an American lawyer and former FBI director whose writing centers on leadership, ethics, justice, and public service. His books include the memoir A Higher Loyalty, a No. 1 New York Times bestseller, and the legal thrillers Central Park West and Westport, which mark his move into fiction.
James Brien Comey Jr. was born in Yonkers, New York, on December 14, 1960, and grew up in Allendale, New Jersey. At the College of William & Mary he studied chemistry and religion, graduating in 1982, before earning a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 1985. Those fields foreshadowed the blend of analytical and moral language that would later shape his books. After clerking and working as a federal prosecutor, he built a national profile in a succession of senior legal roles, including U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, deputy attorney general, and, from 2013 to 2017, the seventh director of the FBI.
