Elle Cosimano’s path to fiction was not linear. She grew up in the Washington, D.C., suburbs, the daughter of a prison warden and an elementary school teacher, studied psychology at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, and spent years in a successful real-estate career before writing took precedence. One decisive turn came when she stepped away from that work and drafted a novel during a family move to Mexico, a period she later described as both a personal and professional reset. Another came even earlier, when she took her manuscript for Nearly Gone to the Big Sur Writers Workshop, received encouraging feedback, and decided to query agents rather than return full time to her previous career.
