生年: January 04, 1943 – Brooklyn, New York, United States
Doris Kearns Goodwin is an American presidential historian and biographer whose work centers on U.S. political leadership, especially Lincoln, Roosevelt, and Johnson. Her notable books include Team of Rivals, No Ordinary Time, and Leadership in Turbulent Times; No Ordinary Time won the Pulitzer Prize for History, and Team of Rivals became a bestselling study of leadership.
Doris Kearns Goodwin built her career by turning a fascination with American public life into a distinctive form of narrative history. Born in Brooklyn in 1943, she grew up in a family culture shaped by storytelling and memory; she has described learning to recount Brooklyn Dodgers games for her father and listening to her mother’s stories, experiences that sharpened both her narrative instinct and her feeling for character. She graduated magna cum laude from Colby College in 1964, earned a Ph.D. in government from Harvard in 1968, and later taught there. The decisive turning point came when, as a White House Fellow and a young critic of the Vietnam War, she was nevertheless drawn into Lyndon B. Johnson’s circle, worked with him in the White House and on his memoirs, and transformed that improbable encounter into Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream.
